POSITION SUMMARY
The position of Substitute College & Career Readiness Coordinator supports BART’s college readiness programming, most notably our goal of ensuring that 100% of students matriculate as full-time college students in the fall after graduation from BART. The College & Career Readiness Coordinator will support these efforts through instruction and administrative responsibilities. This position will play an important role in guiding students -- academically, logistically, socially, and emotionally -- through their final year of high school and into life beyond high school. In its scope of responsibility for student progress and well-being, the position is part instructor and part advisor.
The key responsibility of this position is to serve as the instructor for BART’s Senior Seminar course, which is a capstone experience in our Collegiate Skills curriculum. Instructional focuses include deepening students’ understanding of self, career exploration, college admissions knowledge and strategy, college financial aid literacy, professionalism, and successfully managing the transition from high school to college. While much of the curriculum is delivered through conventional, rigorous instruction, there are also add-on lessons and activities specific to our BART senior experience that enhance the course, making it somewhat more than a core academic experience. The Senior Seminar Teacher will work in tandem with BART’s College Office staff, who will occasionally push in to support coursework and goals, in order to deliver instruction.
In addition to these instructional responsibilities, the College & Career Readiness Coordinator will support student progress by serving in a limited guidance counselor capacity, as outlined below. Responsibilities will be focused on managing student progress throughout high school to ensure that graduation requirements are met and support college advising outside of the classroom.
