ABOUT BART CHARTER

Berkshire Arts & Technology Charter Public School (“BART”) is a nationally recognized, award-winning, college-preparatory, public middle and high school located in Adams, Massachusetts. POSITION SUMMARY

Student Life & DEIB Coordinator works with BART’s faculty, staff, and administration to guide and establish programs, initiatives, events, and practices that promote inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging, while enriching student life experiences across the BART community. The position of Student Life & DEIB Coordinator is a full-time, school-year position, and the individual in the role provides strategic advice and counsel to institutional leadership. The position may also include teaching, and reports directly to the Principal.

EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Student Life Programming:
    • Administer student leadership programs that empower students and promote their active engagement in school life.
    • Provide oversight and support to student clubs, organizations, field trips, and afterschool programs. Ensure that extracurricular programing is robust and aligns with DEI principles and contributes positively to campus culture.
    • Collaborate with school leadership to integrate DEI initiatives into student life programming, curriculum, and school policies.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives: 
    • Conduct training sessions and workshops for faculty, staff, and students on cultural competency, equity, and inclusion that include training in culturally relevant equity pedagogy and help teachers create culturally responsive classrooms
    • Advise the Executive Director, Director of Finance & Operations, and Principal on hiring plans and employee policies and practices that produce diverse pools of job applicants and retain faculty and staff of historically marginalized identities
    • Manage and conduct bias incident reviews and tracking of bias incidents with Student Support. 
    • Provide oversight for the school's DICE committee.
  • Community Building and Engagement:
    • Oversee community-building initiatives that foster a positive school climate and strengthen student connections within the school community.
    • Partner with BART faculty, staff, and families to coordinate events, activities, and outreach efforts that enhance student retention and overall satisfaction.
    • Be active, visible, and engaged with all aspects of the BART community.
    • Lead a Crew.
  • Policy and Procedure Consultation:
    • Provide guidance on policy development from the perspective of DEIB and student life considerations.
    • Collaborate with administrators and faculty to ensure policies and practices support an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Educational achievement with the minimum of a bachelor’s degree, although master’s degree or higher is preferred.
  • Experience in developing and implementing student life and activities programming in a K-12 educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within a school community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of best practices in youth development and student leadership.
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive environment that values diversity and promotes inclusivity.
  • Dedication to the belief that a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community is strong because of these qualities and provides an ideal and powerful learning environment for youth.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students, faculty, and stakeholders.
  • Experience in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and program implementation related to DEIB education.
  • Ability to analyze data and assess program effectiveness to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Dedication to the educational success and holistic development of all students at BART.
