The school nurse  provides first aid and distributes daily prescribed medications and as needed prescribed medications. The nurse assesses illnesses and refers to physicians as needed. The nurse will set up Individual nursing care plans for students with disease processes or chronic conditions of the  school-age children  in the building. The nurse will  intervene to promote, maintain, or restore health and to prevent illness. She or he will  collaborates with other healthcare providers, educational staff, parents, and students.  The school nurse conveys and practices a strong, preventive health focus and responds quickly to potential health risks.

The school nurse is  responsible for the building medication administration  plan and providing physician ordered medical care to the students. 

The school nurse is responsible for all mandated screening to be done including Vision and hearing, heights and weights and BMIs, Postural screenings, Fluoride Programs, CMOHS Dental coordination of students. The nurse is responsible for completing and submitting the  DPH Immunization Compliance survey and the DPH Asthma and Diabetes Survey and the monthly visit report.

Computer skills are a must and experience with Google Docs and Apple products are preferred.

The building nurse will provide staff with any initial first aid due to an injury on school grounds and refer as appropriate to the City Personnel office.The nurse will respond to all emergencies in the building and 

triage and activate EMS.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred/

MA DESE Certification School Nurse All Levels (will need Masters Degree (MSN) or National Certification in School Nursing (NCSN) as part of the DESE requirements) or Obtaining DESE Licensure in the appropriate time frame

Experience in pediatrics and/or public health.

CPR/First Aid Certified.

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Desire to work with students and families. Ability to use Google Docs, Excel and Word. Ability to learn new software systems.
