BCC seeks a seasoned facilities professional committed to best and sustainable practices and willing to take an active role in the day-to-day operations of a 350,000-square-foot campus situated on 180 acres. The Director of Facilities is responsible for the planning and direction of facilities management operations and capital and deferred maintenance projects, including site utilities and a solar array. The Director provides overall leadership and supervision to a talented team comprised of HVAC skilled trades, custodial services (i.e., maintainers), and grounds management.


The Director partners with Massachusetts DCAMM in capital project planning, design, and construction and ensures the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and athletic complexes. This role is committed to sustainability and recycling programs, safely removing hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and monitoring and upgrading automated building and energy management systems. This position reports to the Vice President for Administration & Finance/CFO.


Essential Functions:

  • Facilities and Grounds: Direct the routine, predictive, and preventive maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, grounds, roads, athletic fields, tennis courts, swimming pool, and all related equipment, assets, and properties. Oversee comprehensive maintenance for grounds and landscape operations. Interact with environmental agencies regarding the management of wetlands and the certified vernal pool. Maintain storm water collection and removal systems.
  • Custodial and Maintenance: Manage the maintainer group for custodial services, planning, scheduling, and training staff in green cleaning techniques. Provide equipment and supplies for a safe environment and ensure high standards through inspections.
  • Sustainability: Engage in sustainable practices for energy conservation, recycling, and renewable energy projects, overseeing the energy and building management systems. Serve as the college liaison with state agencies, local agencies and regional utilities regarding facility planning, design, construction, renovation, deferred maintenance and emergency repairs. Act as campus liaison with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Utilities and Capital Projects: Oversee the maintenance and operation of site utilities and manage capital project planning, design, and construction, acting as a liaison with Massachusetts DCAMM. Direct, manage, and assist with capital project studies, schematic designs, bid specifications, cost estimates and construction drawings, utilizing House Doctor contracts. Ensure the reliability of underground utility systems and energy management. Manage the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Review and track all routine, predictive and preventive maintenance. Schedule and coordinate support for all related services through CMMS. Work with Director of Procurement to file monthly reports on construction projects with DCAMM utilizing the CAMIS system
  • Budget and Contracts: Prepare and manage budgets, handle outsourced maintenance contracts which include electrical, plumbing, elevators, emergency generators, glass, building management systems, energy management systems, pest control, roofing, paving, sanitary sewer, kitchen appliances and hoods, refrigeration, vehicles, steam contracts, trash, recycling, medical waste and hazardous waste, and landscaping equipment. Actively monitor these contracts to ensure the best possible quality, cost, and responsiveness.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ADA and environmental laws. Consult with building inspectors and agencies on regulatory matters.
  • Emergency and Liaison Role: Serve as a key member of the Emergency Response Team and act as the college's liaison with state agencies, local utilities, and environmental agencies. Plan and coordinate 24-hour campus snow removal operations. Ensure that the campus is always accessible for emergency response vehicles and safe for students, faculty, staff and visitors
  • Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain records, manage procurement, staff assignments, and scheduling, and oversee CMMS to track maintenance and construction progress. Prepare departmental budgets, including capital project requests. Provide budget updates and forecasts. Present recommendations and manage approved budgets
  • Perform other similar duties as responsibilities require or as requested by the Vice President for Administration & Finance/CFO.

               

Requirements:                   

  • Bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience in facilities management or construction management or a licensed trade and 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management.
  • Substantial supervisory and administrative experience.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • MCPPO certification within one year of hire.

  • Salary: $95,000 - $105,000 per year
