Position Overview

The Chief of Staff will serve as a key advisor and strategic partner to the Executive Director, facilitating the efficient and effective execution of BBEC’s mission and strategic initiatives. The Chief of Staff will oversee day-to-day operations, manage special projects, and coordinate internal and external communications to ensure organizational alignment and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Report to the Executive Director and monitor progress toward organizational objectives and recommend adjustments as needed to personnel.

Operational Management

  • Examine program and departmental budgets.

  • Supervise the Communications Coordinator, Enrichment Navigator, and Black Arts Manager by providing guidance and support.

Communications and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and implement communication strategies and deploy personnel to enhance BBEC’s visibility, impact, and network.

  • Foster and maintain external relationships with key stakeholders, community leaders, and partners, and on occasion The Board of Directors.

  • Collects and summarizes memos routinely from department personnel.

Office, Board, and Committee Support

  • Support the office by maintaining supplies and materials necessary for daily operations and the BBEC’s conference room and/or set up.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a senior management or executive role, preferably within a nonprofit or economic development organization.

  • Proven track record of strategic planning, operational management, and project execution.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and resource allocation.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to BBEC’s mission.
