Job Description


JOB OVERVIEW:

As the Black Arts Council Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the strategic vision of The Black Arts Council within the framework of The Berkshire Black Economic Council. You will collaborate closely with various roles and with the Executive Director to ensure the seamless integration of initiatives and the achievement of organizational goals. Your responsibilities encompass program development, fundraising, artist support, and cross-functional collaboration.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Development:

  • Collaborate with Arts and Cultural organizations to design and conduct programming with The Black Arts Council.

Fundraising and Friend-Raising

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure financial support for the Black Arts Council.

Artist Cohort Support:

  • Conduct hourly one-on-one TA meetings with artists to provide guidance, feedback, and resources. 

  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to enhance the skill and capacities of the artist cohort.

Capacity Building:

  • Work closely with artists to identify opportunities for skills development, mentorship, and networking.

Interdepartmental Liaison:

  • Serve as a liaison between the BlackArts Council and other stakeholders within the Berkshire Black Economic Council.

Collaborative Program Design:

  • Participate in joint programmatic design sessions with the Executive Director, Enrichment Navigator, and Communications Coordinator to ensure alignment with organization objectives.

Communication and Outreach:

  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to ensure the successful promotion of Black Arts Council events and programs through various media channels.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Cultural Management, or a related field is preferred.

  • Proven experience in program development, fundraising, and artist support within the arts and cultural sector.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.

  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in the Black arts and culture landscape.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

This is a full time position starting in 2024, for 12 months, with the opportunity to renew under The Board’s annual assessment review. $46,000 plus two weeks paid vacation. On a need basis, the BBEC may provide technological assistance for our Black Arts Manager, comprehensive orientation, and cultural competency training.
